Compliance and Regulation

As a charity registered with the Charity Commission Northern Ireland (Registration No104170) and as a member of the Fundraising Regulator Scheme, Action Cancer complies with all appropriate legislation, regulation and the Code of Fundraising Practice issued by the Fundraising Regulator.

 

We uphold the rights of Donors.

  • All fundraising requests made by or on behalf of Action Cancer will disclose the charity’s name and purpose for which the funds are requested.
  • Donors and prospective donors are entitled to know, upon request, whether an individual soliciting funds on behalf of the charity is an employee, volunteer, or a paid third party.
  • Donor’s requests to remain anonymous will be respected.
  • Donors and prospective donors will be treated with respect and any reasonable request made by them respected. E.g. not to be contacted electronically or to receive printed material concerning the charity.
  • All donations received, for which a contact address is known will be acknowledged by the charity.
  • All donations received will only be used for the inten­tion for which they were given.
  • Will respond promptly to a complaint by a donor or prospective donor about any matter that is addressed in this policy.

 

We do not:

  • Accept donations or gifts from companies, trusts, individuals etc whose income is significantly derived from being involved in any way, with tobacco, animal testing, armaments, and money lending.
  • Accept donations or gifts from companies or industries with proven poor human rights or environmental practices.
  • Accept donations or gifts were its source is unknown or cannot be ascertained.
  • Accept donations or gifts that may compromise the charity and cause reputational damage.
  • Accept property or services, which it cannot lawfully use, convert, sell or exchange in direct support of its aims.
  • Accept a donation or gift that is dependent on the fulfilment of unacceptable conditions   applied by the donor.
  • Retain a donation or gift from an individual who lacked capacity at the time of the donation.
  • Engage or encourage others to engage on its behalf in any fundraising activity that is not complicit with the charity’s ethical standards or has the potential to compromise the charity and cause it reputational damage.
  • Work with others including that do not meet all regulatory standards and this policy.
  • Engage in wealth screening, data matching, tele-appending, share or sell personal data.
  • Undertake any fundraising door-to-door activity
  • Knock on people’s doors or approach them on the street asking for direct debit donations or bank details.
  • ‘cold-call’ people for fundraising purposes. We may however phone, contact electronically or by direct mail contact people who have already given us permission to contact them. We will always check first that you’re happy to speak to us when we phone. And if you don’t want to be phoned, just let us know.
  • Contract with professional partner organisations that are not appropriately registered, controlled or are certified to deliver the contracted service.

 

Compliance with GDPR 2018

Will not share or sell personal data.

  • We will never pass on your personal data to other organisations or charities for marketing purposes.
  • We will never sell your personal data to other organisations or charities.

 

Every communication from us to members of the public will always include information on how to opt out from future communications

We only want to contact people who are happy to hear from us and we encourage people to get in touch if they’d like to change the way we communicate with them. If you tell us you don’t want to hear from us again, or want to hear from us less, we will respect that. We know that the circumstances of people who donate and support us change.  When requested we will always cancel donations. We always stop direct debits received from donors if a third party (e.g. family and friends) advise us that the donor is vulnerable in some way; if we are satisfied that such third party is entitled to act on the donor’s behalf

Action Cancer will:

  • Remain registered with the Fundraising Regulator, abide by the Code of Fundraising Practice and commit to upholding the Fundraising Promise.
  • We will keep our fundraising practices under review and we will work with others with the aim of improving practice across the charity sector.
  • Review our Income Generation and Donation Policy a minimum of every three years, or sooner if there is a changes in legislation, statutory requirements or standards or a funamdamental change by the charity in its activities and practices, including the use of technology.
  • Report in the Trustees Annual Report the performance of the charity against its Fundraising Policy.
