In NI, we have a Cancer Registry who monitor and track the number of cancers diagnosed every year.  They produce the annual Official Statistic on cancer incidence, prevalence and survival in NI.

There are around 10,000 people in NI diagnosed with cancer every year (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) and an estimated 80000 people living with cancer.

The most common cancer types in men (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) were: 

– Prostate (25%) 

– Lung (14%) 

– Bowel (14%) 

 

The most common cancer types in women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer) were: 

– Breast (30%) 

– Lung (13%) 

– Bowel (11%)
